While funds raised will help provide financial assistance for worthwhile organizations and projects, the Victoria Rotary Club does much more than just write checks. “Hands On” projects completed and funded by the club include:
Early Act First Knight: A new approach to character education, this program features spectacular live-action components like real jousting tournaments and periodic knighting ceremonies in which students are recognized for noble deeds. It also teaches students the importance of serving others and offers them practical avenues of application in their community. The club provides curriculum resources, financial support, and volunteers at knighting ceremonies and service club meetings.
Rotary Four-Way Speech Contest: Students from Victoria’s three high schools compete for scholarship funds by giving speeches that apply Rotary’s Four-Way Test to their daily lives.
Adoption Awareness Picnic: Held each year at the Texas Zoo, this event allows prospective adoptive parents to meet adoptable children in a relaxed, nonclinical environment.
Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA): The Club covers expenses for selected young people, ages 14-30, to attend Rotary’s leadership training program. RYLA emphasizes leadership, citizenship, and personal growth, and aims to demonstrate Rotary’s respect and concern for youth, provide an effective training experience for selected youth and potential leaders, encourage continued and strong leadership of youth by youth, and recognize publicly young people who are rendering service to their communities.
